Position: Fleet Mechanic - Part-Time/Year-Round

Pay Rate: $25.50/hour

Typical Schedule: Monday-Friday 7am-12pm 

Hours: 25 hours/week (average)

 

Summary: Under the direction of the Supervisor of Fleet Services or Fleet Mechanics, this person performs maintenance and repair work on vehicles and equipment for the Fleet Services Division. Work includes service and repair of double axel equipment trailers, 14,000 GVWR or less with electric brake systems, turf mowers, multiple brands of utility carts, grounds maintenance equipment and automated mower blade sharpener.

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Performs minor, major and emergency repairs on fleet vehicles and equipment at the Districts Maintenance and Service Center.
  • Performs preventative maintenance, safety inspections and repairs on a variety of vehicles and equipment commonly used in the daily operation of a large park district.
  • Plans and schedules own work.
  • Purchases repair parts, accessories and shop supplies.
  • Accurately prepares repair orders and other necessary forms.
  • Takes proper safety precautions by using personal protective safety equipment, as the task requires.
  • Identifies potential for unsafe circumstances in performance of job duties and acts accordingly to prevent accidents.
  • Attends work on a regular, reliable and punctual basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum three years’ experience in the repair and maintenance of the following equipment: Automotive, diesel truck, construction, agricultural, landscaping, parks maintenance, or golf course maintenance. Trade school, vocational, military training or any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License, have a good driving record and be insurable by the District’s insurance carrier at the onset and for the duration of employment.
  • Current certifications in AED/CPR or the ability to obtain such certifications within sixty (60) days of employment
  • Requires the ability to work under minimal supervision and assume responsibility for task initiation and completion.
  • Must communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with internal customers and outside vendors or service providers.
  • Ability to operate a PC and use Microsoft Office and Fleet Management Software.
  • Requires strong analytical skills necessary to diagnose and successfully perform repairs on electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Requires knowledge in the repair of hydraulic systems, gasoline and diesel powered equipment, tractors, large turf mowers, and small engines.
  • The ability to drive or operate this equipment is necessary to perform the maintenance or repair functions.
  • Must have a complete set of mechanics hand and air powered tools and adequate tool storage boxes necessary to carry out assigned repairs.
  • A working knowledge in the correct and safe use of gas and acetylene and MIG welding equipment, tire changing and balancing machines, brake lathes, vehicle hoists and related shop equipment is needed.
  • Requires the ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with other District personnel, the public and representatives of other governmental agencies
