Position: Golf Maintenance Specialist (Irrigation Technician) at Meadows Golf Club

Under the direction of Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, this position performs skilled manual and technical work involved in the maintenance, operation, and management of the golf course irrigation system(s). This includes irrigation scheduling and performing all necessary repairs related to the irrigation system.
Job Responsibilities:
- Maintains the irrigation system by performing system analysis, repairs, adjustments and installations as required.
- Turf maintenance
- Snow removal
- Maybe required to perform other routine maintenance/grounds keeping tasks at times.
- Turf maintenance.
- May train and provide work direction to assigned seasonal and part-time personnel.
- Maintain records of work performed including preventative maintenance and needed repairs.
- Operate and maintain a variety of grounds maintenance equipment and tools including tractor, truck, backhoe, overseeder, rototiller, aerator, sod cutter, jack hammer, fork lift, clipper, small hand and power tools.
- Clean and perform routine maintenance on grounds maintenance equipment and tools as well as daily maintenance center organization.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, trainings, and orientations.
- Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
- Correct or inform supervisor of any hazards; communicate issues/complaints to supervisor as needed.
- Attend work on a regular, reliable and punctual basis.
Working Environment: 95% or more of the work is performed outdoors in all types of weather conditions and requires the ability to drive to park and building locations. May be exposed to extreme cold, heat, wet, snow, humid or icy conditions. Frequent exposure to noise, fumes, dusts, mists, gases, grasses, molds, fertilizers, solvents, oils, and greases. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Graduation from high school or completion of GED.
- Associate’s Degree in Turfgrass or Horticultural preferred.
- Two (2) years experience in golf or landscape maintenance, horticulture, forestry or a closely related field, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Industry certification preferred (general or turf and ornamental categories) or ability to obtain within the first year of employment is preferred.
- Requires the ability to work under minimal supervision and assume responsibility for task initiation and completion.
- Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, materials and equipment involved in the maintenance, repairs and operation of irrigation systems required.
- The ability to read and interpret plans, blueprints and drawings required.
- Knowledge of the proper use of equipment used in golf course environment.
- Knowledge of and experience operating and maintaining irrigation systems preferred.
- Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment involved in the development and maintenance of landscaped areas and turf practices and golf course set up preferred.
- Knowledge of and/or the ability to learn occupational hazards and safety precautions preferred.
- Experience leading a crew preferred.
- Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s license or be able to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
- Must be insurable by the Districts insurance carrier at the onset and for the duration of employment.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to frequently sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, reach, lift and exhibit manual dexterity with the ability to handle objects. Must be able to occasionally push, pull or balance. Upper body strength is a requisite to lift /move a maximum of 50 pounds unassisted and lift /move a maximum of 100 pounds with assistance. Vision requirements include near acuity, far acuity, and depth perception and color vision. The position requires the sense of smell and feeling. Requires the ability to communicate both orally and in writing and execute oral and written instructions with understanding. Must have the ability to talk and hear via the telephone and through face-to-face communication.
