Systems Administrator

Under the direct supervision of the Information Technology Manager, the Systems Administrator supports, maintains, and monitors the operation of the District’s IT infrastructure; including virtual infrastructure (compute and SAN storage), LAN and WAN, Wi-Fi, Firewall/Filtering, Exchange E-mail, Active Directory and backups. The position also provides support to users by troubleshooting and resolving technical problems.

Job Duties:

  • Assists the Information Technology Manager with the installation, configuration, maintenance, and monitoring of all servers and services, including Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, NPS, Remote Desktop Services, SQL Server, VPN, and VOIP technologies.
  • Supports backup/restore procedures, participates in backup infrastructure maintenance, and performs disaster recovery testing.
  • Performs routine maintenance tasks related to the District’s virtual infrastructure and collaborates on capacity planning and upgrades. Participates in SAN storage administration, supporting the continued health and operation of virtual infrastructure.
  • Supports all facets of the District’s Microsoft 365 tenants, including Entra ID, SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange Online (hybrid), Forms, Conditional Access, and Multifactor Authentication Methods.
  • Supports network operations across WAN/LAN/Wireless (Cisco/Meraki/Ubiquiti/Dell), including basic switch port configuration, SSID changes, and troubleshooting of TCP/IP, VLANs, and VPN connectivity.
  • Assists with the maintenance of system monitoring and alerting systems, ad monitors all systems, servers, and networking devices.
  • Implements patching schedules and assists with Windows, application, and firmware updates.
  • Troubleshoots complex problems to avoid costly downtime and service outages.
  • Maintains, configures, upgrades, and ensures the integrity of the District’s computer hardware, software, VoIP, and voice mail systems. 
  • Maintains secure web-based applications and SQL Server databases for various applications.
  • Provides timely, customer-focused technical support, troubleshooting, problem analysis, and instruction to staff with computer problems as needed or in absence of the Technical Support Analyst. Implements solutions for identified problems to ensure minimum delay and effective operation for system users.
  • In the absence of the Information Technology Manager, assists with management of the day-to-day operations and other tasks as assigned.
  • Supports the employee access lifecycle, including account creation/management, password resets, group memberships, and employee offboarding.
  • Perform cable installation/termination and install/relocate PCs and printers across District sites.
  • Assist with PCI DSS compliance activities and evidence collection for applicable systems.
  • Participates in selection of software platforms for use throughout the District.
  • Responds to after-hours emergencies as part of an on-call rotation.
  • Attend work on a regular, reliable and punctual basis.
  • Assists staff in the creation of digitally accessible content using standard office productivity software (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point and Adobe Acrobat).
  • Participates in the selection and District wide implementation of digital accessibility tools.
  • Participates in District’s digital accessibility efforts.

Experience and Skills

Education and/or Experience:

Associate’s degree in computer science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, certified network/systems administration training and experience in the field.  Requires a minimum of two (2) years of experience in providing technical assistance and support for infrastructure systems and in the installation and maintenance of LAN/WAN network systems. 

  • Entra ID, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS experience is required
  • Microsoft 365 experience required
  • Wireless technology experience is required
  • Experience with Exchange Online in a hybrid environment is desired
  • Experience with virtual machine hypervisors is desired
  • Cisco Meraki networking experience is desired
  • iSCSI SAN storage experience is desired
  • VoIP experience is desired
  • Deploying and/or managing Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains experience is desired
  • Understanding and ability to apply digital accessibility concepts and WCAG requirements desired

Licenses, Certificates & Other Requirements:

  • One or more certifications in Network and Systems Administration (A+/Network+/Security+, CCNA, ITIL Foundation, etc.)
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within thirty (30) days of employment. Must be insurable by the District carrier at the onset and for the duration of employment
