The Brave Women’s Community Center (BWCC)

The Brave Women’s Community Center (BWCC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit entering its next stage of growth and seeking 2–3 founding board members to provide governance oversight and strategic support.
BWCC is a trauma-informed creative healing center serving women who have experienced abuse, coercive control, and long-term psychological harm. Through therapeutic improv, storytelling, expressive arts programming, and community gatherings, BWCC supports post-crisis integration, identity rebuilding, and voice reclamation.
We are currently building a small, engaged, working board to help strengthen financial sustainability, governance structure, and long-term growth.
All board members will:
• Provide fiduciary oversight and uphold nonprofit governance standards
• Attend quarterly board meetings (in-person or virtual)
• Review financial summaries and organizational updates
• Support long-term strategic planning
• Serve as ambassadors for the organization in the community
• Make a personally meaningful annual financial contribution
• Commit to a two-year term
Estimated time commitment: 3–6 hours per month.
Board members provide governance and strategic support. Programming leadership and creative direction remain under the Founder & Executive Director.
The Treasurer provides financial oversight and helps ensure the organization operates responsibly and sustainably.
Responsibilities include:
• Review quarterly financial reports
• Assist in annual budget development
• Monitor cash flow and reserve planning
• Provide financial insight for growth decisions
• Ensure proper documentation of compensation and expense allocation
Ideal background:
• CPA, accountant, financial professional, or business owner
• Comfortable reviewing budgets and financial statements
• Detail-oriented and steady
The Development Chair supports revenue growth and long-term sustainability.
Responsibilities include:
• Help develop annual fundraising strategy
• Identify sponsorship and donor opportunities
• Make introductions to potential supporters
• Support at least one fundraising initiative annually
• Assist in developing recurring donor strategy
Ideal background:
• Business leader, entrepreneur, or community connector
• Comfortable discussing financial support and sponsorship
• Relationship-oriented and proactive
The Secretary supports strong governance and organizational structure.
Responsibilities include:
• Record and maintain board meeting minutes
• Maintain board records and documentation
• Assist with bylaw and policy review
• Support onboarding of new board members
• Ensure compliance with governance standards
Ideal background:
• Organized and systems-oriented professional
• Experience in nonprofit, legal, or administrative work preferred
• Detail-focused and dependable
